Teenage killings and gang violence seem to dominate the headlines. Across the nation, young lives are being lost or destroyed by knives and guns and communities are held in a grip of fear as rival crews fight for bloody supremacy. But how much do we really know about Britain’s street gangs? Who are they, how do they operate and what leads them to pursue the lives they do?
With first-hand research among gang members, YOUNG GUNS chronicles the new generation of violent gangstas in towns and cities around the UK. From major cities like London, Glasgow and Sheffield to small towns, it reveals the lawless exploits of little-known mobs such as the Firetown Crew, the Fallowfield Man Dem, the Demolition Crew, the Burger Bar Boys, the Swarcliffe Warriors and the terrifying Stikem Up Klik.
Author Steve Hackman also explores the exploits of all-girl gangs including the Chapel Allerton Crew from Leeds and the Gorbals Burdz from Glasgow, so-called ‘postcode gangs’ such as the gun-toting HX5, Sikh and Muslim gangs, Triads and Yardies. He details countless shootings, armed robberies, kidnappings and murders, including some of the most high-profile crimes of recent years.
YOUNG GUNS is a shocking journey inside Britain’s burgeoning street culture and the frightening reality of gangs and gang life today.
